Belle, Jessie, Murray and FT Ramsey, ca 1890

 

FT, Belle and their family moved from Mohamet in Burnet County to Austin in 1894 and built a home at 4412 Avenue B, the corner of Avenue B and 45th street. The reason for the location was that FT could have his nursery across 45th Street, outside the city limits and therefore not subject to city taxes. The drawing came from a brochure for the Hyde Park Home Tour.

Frank Taylor Ramsey, nicknamed Fruit Tree because of his occupation, had several photographs taken of him over the years.

 

   

 

FT Ramsey was not only an outstanding nurseryman, but also a poet, inventor and expert fiddler.
