Other Sinclair Photographs and Biographies
Jessie
Ann Sinclair Cady Davis, oldest daughter of John and Jessie
Black Sinclair
This tintype shows, I believe, Jessie Sinclair Cady with her two
daughters, Mary Belle 'Mamie' and Jessie Flora and Jessie's
mother, Jessie Black Sinclair.
A photograph of Jessie and Mamie. The arrow points to Jessie,
who was the younger of the two sisters and is the ancestor of
the Sinclair- Dowell line. She appears to be the older sister in
this photo, but in the tintype above Mamie with her very round
face does look like the older. Mamie and Jessie were going to
make their home with the FT Ramseys, after their mother died in
1892. Mamie was taken ill, probably appendicitis, in Chicago
before she traveled to Texas. She died several days after
reaching Austin and is buried in the Bear Creek cemetery in
Burnet County, Texas between Bertram and Mahomet on FM 243.
Jessie Flora was unofficially adopted by Frank Taylor and Belle
Ramsey and lived with them, probably until her marriage in 1905.
Above right, Mary's grave stone. It says, "Mary B. Cady; Born In
Manistee, Mich. Oct 14, 1878 - Died May 9, 1894 At Austin, Texas."
A photograph of "CT Dowell, one year old", taken in Austin,
Texas. Presumably this is Carr Thomas Dowell, Jr born in Temple,
Texas on 15 Mar 1906 so this photo was taken in March 1907. He
was the oldest of four sons of Carr Thomas and Jessie Flora Cady
Dowell.
A photo from the 1946 LSU yearbook of Martha Frances 'Sally'
Dowell, the daughter of Carr Thomas Dowell, Jr and Martha
Shirley Boyd Dowell, later Pendleton. The yearbook noted she was
from New Orleans, Louisiana, majoring in Arts and Sciences and
was a member of Pi Beta Phi.

Malcolm B. Sinclair, son of John and Jessie Black Sinclair
He was killed by lightening in 1887 at the age of 30. Because of the untimely deaths of Malcolm and other family members named Malcolm, and an accident involving at least one other, the family dropped the tradition of passing along this proud Scots name to male children. He's buried in the Bear Creek cemetery in Burnet County, Texas. The stone says "M. B. Sinclair died Jul 27, 1887 Age 30 Yrs"
Flora Jane Sinclair and M. Burr Moreland and four of their children
They had six children: Samuel Neil, Malcolm
Burr, Jessie Belle, John Millard, Mary Euphie and Flora Agnes.
If the baby is John Millard, the photo was taken in 1893.

The 1880 US census
for Manistee, Manistee County, Michigan lists an Edward J. Cady,
36, his wife Jessie A. 30 and born in Canada and their daugher
Mary Belle, 2 living at 206 Third St. Also living with them was
Edward's brother-in-law, Niel St. Clair. The census lists his
age as 27, which would make his birth date ca 1853 instead of ca
1863. The ealier date would make more sense for him going to the
1876 WorldÕs Fair. He would have been 23 instead of 13. But that
conflicts with his death date of 1900 supposedly at the age of
37, according to a note on the back of his photo. Jane and
Claire Williams think the earlier date is correct, that he was
born ca. 1853 instead of what the family story below would
imply, ca 1863.
Info on one of his photos said ÒJohn Neil Sinclair, principal of
Spokane, Washington public schools, Deputy Sheriff at Caney
(Carney?) Kansas. Emigrated to Texas in April 1882, Died
2/23/1900, acute meningitis, Spokane Washington.Ó In the 1900 US
census taken on June 11 in Spokane, Washington, a Cora A.
Sinclair, age 27, was living with her brother, Charles Reynolds.
She was listed as a widow, born Aug 1872 in Maine. Her
parents were also from Maine. She had had no children and was
working as a stenographer.
According to a family story, Neil fell in love with Texas and
wrote back for his family to go down there and sit under their
Ôown vine and fig tree.Õ He brought his mother and sisters from
Canada to Texas and then left them. He moved from Texas, and he
and his wife lived in Spokane, where he was a principal at
Logan School and a member of the Christian Church. He died at
age 37.
In 1938, Winnie Ramsey Nitschke paid $1.02 for a cement marker
to be put on the grave of her uncle, Belle's brother, John Neil
SinclairÕs grave in Spokane, WA. Up until then there had only
been a wooden cross marking the grave.

John Marshall, son of Charles and Ann Sinclair Marshall
According to Flora Myrtle Sinclair, the photo on the left is of Laughlin McCowan; on the right is Hugh McCowan who married Isabel Graham. Laughlin and Hugh were brothers of Ann McCowan Sinclair.
