UUCP Choir Events Aug – Dec 2009
On Sunday, Aug 9, 2009, Kat, Bonnie and Melinda provided special music for the service.
We’re developing ensembles to provide music when the entire choir doesn’t sing.
On Aug 16, Dave and Bonnie played and sang folk songs with the help of Kat and Heidi.
Bill joined in too.
Dave had written special UU words for That Old Time Religion in honor of the service on Taoism.
On Aug 23, a group visited Mark while he recovers from illness.
Jerry wants to start a music ministry program in which the choir sings to people in hospitals and hospices.
On Wed, Aug 26, 2009 we had our first choir practice of the fall and celebrated August birthdays – Duke, Diana, Heidi, Dante and Charlotte.
Dante being silly!
We had
four new choir
members join us – Barbara, above talking to Jerry, Chris and Karen, and
Donna.
That puts our number of singers to 32!
On Saturday, Sept 19, 2009, we had our Fall Choir Retreat. Before we
began, Rev Susan thanked us for all we did to make Sunday services
special.
Our hardworking tenor section - Paula, Jerry, Barbara, Bobbi, Smoot,
Sandy and Bill. We have *7* tenors in the
choir!
Another shot of our incredible tenor line-up, the only section to have
all its members at the retreat.
Our intrepid basses, Bob, Richard and Duke. Missing Ron and Chris.
Richard was
being coy.
But I caught him when he wasn't looking.
Our soaring sopranos - Emily, Susan, Pal and Carolyn. Donna joined us
later. It was great having
Carolyn back. We missed having Heidi, Karen, Kelly and Sharon with us.
The amazing altos - from r to l - Ginny, Charlotte, Pauline, Joyce,
Diana and Bonnie. Jean, still a soprano, ended up sitting
with us. We missed Joanne, Sally, Kat and Melinda (who is now
trans-sectional
- alto
and soprano!).
More pics of the hardworking altos
and Jean.
Connie encouraged us to be more animated when we sing
so we were!
It was a fun day and we covered a lot of challenging and beautiful
music.
On Sept 27, Bill and Joan hosted a choir party at their house and
showed us their newly redecorated kitchen.
Bonnie
and Dave approved!
Joan took these photos of the musical part of the party.
On Sunday Oct 4th, the group doing music between services moved outside
and entertained on the patio.
On Wed, Oct 7th, we celebrated our October choir b'days - Connie, Donna
and Bill.
On Sunday, Oct 11, 2009, Connie, Dennis and Jerry played special music
in the Food Service.
These two photos were taken, without a flash which explains the
graininess, from the archive/storeroom above Connie's office.
A photo of Connie wearing the amber violin pin we gave her for her 10th
anniversary at UUCP in 2007.
On Oct 15, UUCP celebrated the life of Charlie Lynch. The choir sang an
Irish blessing that Connie had set to a Brahms' piece.
Ed played Granada in honor of Charlie.
On Oct 17, we met at Susan's to make gifts to give to the people we
carol at Christmas.
We had a sewing station with three, count them, three machines and a
painting area.
Susan, Libby, Juanita, Pauline and Joan worked on the pillows.
Sharon, Paula, Joan, Sandy and I worked on the wooden ornaments Stan
had made and glass ones Paula and Pauline had bought.
We celebrated Halloween at the choir practice on Oct 28.
On Oct 30, Connie and Richard hosted a party at their house.
We
celebrated our Nov birthdays - Barbara and Carolyn.
On Nov 12, Lynne presented her American Song night. Several choir
members took part including Bonnie, Melinda, Igor and Kat.
The sanctuary was decorated for the holidays and we had special music
on Dec 6.
We did a rousing version of Light One Candle with lots of guitars and
other instruments on Dec 13.
A lucky 13 of us went caroling on Dec 19th.
We sang to Helen Votichenko who gave us a bottle of wine for our party!
We sang
to Lucienne and Bob Rusconi, who had cookies for us and let us look at
her beautiful artwork and his amazing airplane models.
We sang for Carolyn and Richard Maxon; they had cookies for us too!
Our last stop was Frank and Rosie Hermann's.
We then moved on to our party at Paula and Pauline's. Since Ruth was on
our list to carol and she was there, we sang to her before she left!
But there was also time for serious discussion.
On Sunday, Dec 20th, we again had lots of instruments.
Lynne, Gerry and the clacker guy played a special arrangement of Sleigh
Bells!
On Christmas eve we had a double duet.
Gloria!
Jerry, Richard, Connie and Melinda sang We Saw Three Ships.
After the service, Sharon presented Connie gifts from the choir.
I got a Darth Vader helmet and cape and a Star Trek shirt!
