Choir Events

Sept – Dec 2008

On Sept 13, the choir sang at the Birmingham Bombing Memorial service.

Brenda Combs sang solos.

On Oct 12, the Leungs surprised Connie with a party for her birthday during the Family Choir practice.

The family choir hard at work on their kazoos!

On Oct 15th, we celebrated both our Oct birthdays, Connie and Bill.

On Oct 19, Ed came back and played for the service including a duet with Connie.

On Sat, Oct 25 several choir members attended the barbecue honoring the visitors from our partner church in Romania. Most of the photos from the event were taken by Dale.

Richard welcoming our guests, the Rev Domokos Rusz, his wife Eva (in front), congregation president Gyuszi Littasi, and his wife Csilla.

A good time was had by all!

There was an impressive spread.

There was line dancing and square dancing.

Domi and Eva really got into the square dancing.

Carolyn and Brad got into their own dancing!

Smoot obviously had everyone’s attention.

Connie had gotten together a special band to play for our guests.

On Oct 26, we had the band join us for the special service where the Rev. Domokos Rusz gave the sermon.

On Nov 5, we celebrated Obama’s win at choir practice.

On Nov 8, Dave, Connie and Richard played special music at the service.

On Nov 11, several UUCP members including choir members, joined the protest against the passage of anti-gay marriage legislation.

The two photos above were on the azcentral.com website.

On Nov 12, we celebrated our one Nov b’day, Carolyn.

On Nov 21, we had a choir party with Rev Susan. Above some of the first arrivals.

Before people could eat, those who hadn’t seen my collection studio got a tour.

Leroy and Duke, two lawyers, and Smoot in a serious discussion.

After most people had finished eating, Susan talked the group about her hopes and plans for the future, and led a discussion about going to two services and how that would impact the choir.

Susan with the happy hosts.

During the party, the kittens were locked away in our closet.

The turtles were where they always are, in the master bathroom!

On Nov 23, 2008, we celebrated the bread ceremony. These photos were taken by Chris Crabb.

The Family Choir sang "Open the Door," with kazoos!

The Congregation Choir and Family Choir sang "Choose to Bless the World."

The postlude was "Whoa, I'm Feeling Gratitude Inside," in which the congregation was encouraged to sing and dance along with the choir.

The music was made even more fun and dramatic by percussion. (I took this photo.)

On Saturday, December 6, twenty two people gathered at the church, then split into three groups and went to carol some of our homebound and ill members. My group visited Barbara V, above.

and Margaret H.

and Lucienne and Bob R.

And Charlie L. at his retirement center.

After caroling, Bill and Joan hosted a party at their house.

Bill got the fire started but, unknown to him, ended up with ashes on his head!

On Dec 14, the ensemble sang several Christmas songs in the service. Sadly, I forgot my camera and had to use my phone, that didn't do a veryy good job. But if you pretend it's a dream, it's not so bad!

Kate, Sandy and Connie played violin.

And Don played the drums.

Emily joined in on percussion.

On Dec 23, a group of us went to carol at a congregation member's home. It was supposed to be a birthday surprise, but the b'day boy was sick and not there. We sang anyway. (We're supposed to look Dickensian, that's why the capes!)

Later that evening at practice break on Dec 23, we celebrated our Dec b'day, Kat.

As usual, Ginny had come up with some great gifts and Pat's cake was yummy.

We also gave Connie her Christmas gift. Lynne wasn't with this that night.

On Dec 30, Connie and Richard hosted an After Christmas party and jam session at their house.

Emily and Kate, our newest members, seemed to have a good time!

Duke started the jam session when he began to play his guitar.

Connie joined in with her violin and we all sang heartily.

Emily had brought her cello and Kate her violin.

Sandy then joined in with her violin.

Jerry played his clarinet, Eric his guitar and Kat worked her spindle!

Then Heidi got her guitar.

And Dave his banjo.

Gretchen helped the kids look for some fun music to sing.

It was the end of 2008, another busy year for the UUCP choir and its friends!
