UUCP Choir Events Jan - July 2009

On Sat, Jan 10, 2009 the choir had a retreat to study the music for the coming months.

The retreat photo directly above and the ones below were taken by Bill Snowden.

Tenors hard at work. Jean has such a wonderful smile!

On Fri, Jan 16, the YRUU sponsored an incorrectly named 'No Talent Talent Show.' There was a lot of talent on display including several choir members.

Emily and Kate played the Cantina Band song from Star Wars, Ep IV and Emily read some of her poetry.

There were some technical difficulties but they were quickly fixed and Connie, Bonnie and Dave did several songs.

Jerry played a piece he'd written for the show and Emily and Kate played another song from Star Wars, Duel of the Fates from Ep 1.

Kate played and sang Do Re Mi from Sound of Music while Kim showed the motions and Kate ended the evening with a rousing sing-along of In the Jungle.

On Sat, Jan 24, Jason Shelton, who was in town for Rev Susan's installation, gave a workshop for song leaders. Connie listend attentively.

Kat and Carolyn both took their turn as song leaders.

On Jan 25, 2009 the choir sang at the installatiion of the Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray.

We sang a song composed for the occasion by Sandy's son.

Jason Shelton preached the sermon at the installation. We also sang the piece he wrote for Rev Susan's ordination.

On Jan 28, we celebrated three January b'days - Lynne, Sharon and Pauline. On a sadder note, on Sat, Jan 31, the choir sang Amazing Grace at Tommie Grigsby's funeral.

On Feb 11, we celebrated our two Feb b'days - Kelly and Ginny.

On Feb 15, we celebrated Pet Sunday and Heidi talked about her pet.

On March 4, we celebrated the March b'days - Bobbi, Pat, Susan, Joyce and Joanne.

On March 7, a small group of us choir members went to Prescott to help the UU church choir practice for the Sources performance at DA in May.

It wasn't all work. After we finished, we had Mexican food.

On March 11, the choir surprised me with a St. Charlotte's Day celebration. It was indeed a complete surprise, showing how totally oblivious I am!

On March 21, 2009, the choir presented Cabaret with the Theme - Hittin' the Road.

On Apr 4, 2009, we had a special Sources practice.

On April 11, we had a post Cabaret party at Bill and Joan's.

On April 19, our amazing ensemble performed two songs by Bob Marley - Grace

and Don't Worry, Be Happy.

And Kat sang Pennies from Heaven.

On April 30, we hosted a Sources practice with singers from VUU and other churches in AZ, CA and NM.

On May 1, we sang Sources: a UU Cantata at the opening ceremony of the PSW District Assembly being held in Mesa. Above, our rehearsal.

The photos above and below of our performance were taken by a VUU member.

Our wonderful percussion and bass section.

Our soloists were great - Melinda and Heidi

and Kelly who got special recognition for having the entire cantata memorized!

On May 27, Connie hosted an Awards Ceremony after choir practice for the musicians and singers who made UUCP a special place this year. To see the photos, go to http://www.charlottes-web.com/2009_Choir_Award_Party.htm.

On Sunday, June 7, 2009, we recognized Connie's having become a credentialed UU musician. Sharon had made a special stole and pin in honor of the occasion.

Smoot gave Connie a sage bush because she's said she wanted one!

Connie thanked us.

Sharon with Connie and her one-of-a-kind stole and pin.

After the service, Kat gave Connie a pair of musician gloves she'd hand made.

Both Connie and Rev Susan have nice stoles!

On June 28, 2009, Kate's last Sunday with us, she played the hauntingly beautiful Ashokan Farewell.

We're going to miss Kate a lot!

Bonnie and Dave Cunningham hosted a July 4th party and rehearsal for special music the next Sunday, July 5th.

We had a yummy potluck after our practice.

Bonnie and Dave's home is beautiful and has an infinity edge pool.

After supper we were able to watch fireworks from one of their decks. Bonnie and Dave played appropriately patriotic songs!
